When BH we started working on the Emotion project back in 2007, very few people had heard about pedal-assist bikes. Since then, these vehicles have become more and more popular in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland… In Spain, the number of commuters who have discovered the advantages of riding ebikes is on the rise. And a great many of them, in Spain and the rest of Europe, lean on BH.
Four years have passed since our range of hybrids was launched, and the BH designers continued working on the next generation. After many hours of lab work, we are introducing the unique BH Emotion NEO.
“Over the past years, users of pedal-assist hybrids have told us that they’d like to have a less visible battery. The NEO embodies our new concept of ebike, an electric bike that looks like a regular bicycle, that no-one can tell whether it’s a pedal-assist or a conventional bike at first sight,” BH Marketing Manager Alex Zuloaga says.
Revolutionary technology and design
What is it that makes the NEO so special? On the one hand, their innovative design, integrating the battery into the down tube and making it totally removable. On the other, their revolutionary rear drive system (RDS), which captures braking energy to charge the new Samsung Lithium Ion 324Wh battery, thus optimizing riding efforts.
Try and find these characteristics in e-bikes from other manufacturers. You will not find them, because the original technical features of our BH Emotion NEO have obtained a worldwide patent.
“We’ve got a patent for the integration of two big parts: the battery and the control unit. It’s a simple, comfortable design that helps conceal much of the battery. The Emotion NEO has nothing to do with the other pedal assist bikes on the market, for it boasts many technical and design advantages and almost looks like an ordinary bike,” Zuloaga adds.
Apart from the exclusive BH design, the Emotion NEO carries a new 350W “brushless” motor limited to a 250W output to comply with European regulations. The motor is in the rear wheel and brings superior assistance, reaching a 1:3 ratio boost, which means that it multiplies by three the force applied to the pedals. The Emotion NEO motor is noiseless even in the most powerful mode, thanks to the torque sensor integrated into the rear part of the frame, which detects the shifts required.
“New features start right on the control panel, which doubles as a key to start the vehicle, that is, the bike won’t work without it. The motor is much more powerful, allowing for more comfortable assistance and achieving great power peaks at specific times, on steep inclines for instance. Moreover, the torque sensor and the 27-gear rear derailleur ensure optimal power transfer without any special chainrings or cranksets,” claims Zuloaga.
All these features, plus the light weight between 21kg and 24kg, result in one of the most innovative e-bikes on the market, with a range of up to 56 miles in eco mode. So BH has set the trend again and become pioneer in a sector where our e-bike model has triumphed twice at the Monaco EVER Challenge, a race that takes place during the prestigiousEcologic Vehicles & Renewable Energies International Conference and Exhibition, and was praised byExtraEnergy, an organization that specializes in pedelec and e-bike testing.
